Biography

Debra Messing is an American actress best known for her work in television, film, and theater. She was born on August 15, 1968, in Brooklyn, New York City.

 

 

Career

Messing studied theater at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and later earned a master's degree from Brandeis University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. She began her professional acting career on stage and soon moved into television and film.

Her breakthrough came with the sitcom Will & Grace (1998–2006), in which she played Grace Adler, an interior designer and best friend of Will Truman. The series became a major success, and Messing received multiple Emmy Award nominations before winning the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 2003.

 

 

Film Career

Messing has appeared in numerous films, including A Walk in the Clouds (1995), Along Came Polly (2004), The Wedding Date (2005), The Women (2008), Nothing Like the Holidays (2008), and Searching (2018).

She also starred in The Mothman Prophecies alongside Richard Gere and Laura Linney.

 

 

Television Work

Following Will & Grace, Messing starred in the television series The Starter Wife (2008) and Smash (2012–2013). She later returned to her famous role as Grace Adler when Will & Grace was revived from 2017 to 2020.

She has also made guest appearances in several television programs and has continued working in both comedy and drama.
