Biography
Deepak Nayar is an Indian-American film producer renowned for his work in independent cinema. Born in India in 1959, he began his career in the Indian film industry, collaborating with Merchant Ivory Productions on films such as Heat & Dust and The Deceivers.
In the mid-1990s, Nayar moved to Los Angeles and founded Kintop Pictures, a production company that became a platform for his diverse film projects. His notable works include David Lynch's Lost Highway (1997), the critically acclaimed Bend It Like Beckham (2002), and the Oscar-nominated The Buena Vista Social Club (1999).
Throughout his career, Nayar has produced over 65 projects spanning various genres and languages. He has worked with renowned directors such as Wim Wenders, Paul Schrader, and Gurinder Chadha, and has been instrumental in bringing international stories to a global audience. His filmography includes The Walker (2007), The Mistress of Spices (2005), and The Wedding Guest (2018).
Beyond his production work, Nayar co-founded Filmaka, an online platform for emerging filmmakers, further demonstrating his commitment to nurturing new talent in the film industry.
