Deva is a celebrated Indian music composer and singer best known for his extensive work in Tamil cinema. Active since the late 1980s, he has composed music for more than 400 films, earning him the title “Thenisai Thendral” (Breeze of Sweet Music). His unique blend of folk, melody, and upbeat rhythms made him one of the most influential composers of the 1990s and early 2000s.
Early Life and Background
Deva was born into a family of musicians in Chennai. Encouraged by his father and brothers—who were also involved in music—he developed an early passion for composing. He learned classical music, mastered various instruments, and gradually entered the film industry through small projects and stage performances.

Deva’s breakthrough came with the film Vaigasi Poranthachu (1990), whose songs became major hits. He soon rose to prominence with a steady string of successful soundtracks and became one of the busiest composers in Tamil cinema.
