Biography
Deepak Adhikari, widely known by his stage name Dev, is a prominent Indian actor, producer, singer, and screenwriter, primarily associated with Bengali cinema. In addition to his film career, he is also an active politician and has been serving as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha, representing the Ghatal constituency since 2014 as a candidate of the All India Trinamool Congress. He owns the production company Dev Entertainment Ventures.
Early Life and Debut
Born on 25 December 1982 in Keshpur, West Bengal, Dev developed an early interest in acting. He made his film debut in Agnishapath (2006) opposite Rachna Banerjee. Although the film was a critical and commercial failure, he bounced back with I Love You (2007), directed by Ravi Kinagi, which, despite mixed reviews, achieved commercial success and marked the first significant breakthrough in his career.
Career Highlights
Dev gained further recognition with Premer Kahini (2008), his first film with co-star Koel Mallick, which was moderately successful. His breakthrough came with Challenge (2009), earning him the Anandalok Awards for Best Actor and Best Action Hero.
Over the years, Dev has become one of Bengali cinema’s most bankable stars with hits such as Le Chakka (2010), Dui Prithibi (2010), Paglu (2011), Challenge 2 (2012), Khoka 420 (2013), Rangbaaz (2013), Chander Pahar (2013), Zulfiqar (2016), and Amazon Obhijaan (2017), the latter becoming the highest-grossing Bengali film of all time. His more recent successes include Tonic (2021), Projapoti (2022), Bagha Jatin (2023), and Pradhan (2023).
Awards and Recognition
Dev has received numerous accolades, including Tele Cine Awards, Kalakar Awards, Filmfare Awards East (2017), and the NABC International Bangla Film Award (2017). In 2014, the Government of West Bengal honored him with the Mahanayak Samman Award. Despite some criticism regarding his accent and acting skills, he remains one of the highest-paid and most sought-after actors in Bengali cinema.

Besides films, Dev has also contributed to television as a mentor on the dance reality show Dance Bangla Dance, replacing Mithun Chakraborty.
