Diane Drake is an American screenwriter best known for writing romantic comedies and dramas for Hollywood. She is particularly recognized for the films What About Bob? (1991), Only You (1994), and Out to Sea (1997).
Career
Drake established herself as a screenwriter during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Her writing is often characterized by romantic relationships, mistaken identities, humorous situations, and characters searching for love and personal fulfillment.
One of her best-known screenplays is Only You (1994), directed by Norman Jewison and starring Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr. The romantic comedy follows Faith, a woman who believes she is destined to marry a man named Damon Bradley. Her search for him leads her to Italy, where she meets Peter Wright, who initially pretends to be Damon. The film became one of Drake's most recognizable writing credits.
Drake also wrote What About Bob? (1991), a comedy starring Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss. The film follows a psychiatrist whose life becomes increasingly chaotic when an overly dependent patient follows him on vacation.
