Dinesh Babu

Biography

Dinesh Babu (also known as Dinesh Baboo) is an Indian film director, cinematographer, screenwriter, producer and actor who has worked predominantly in Kannada cinema, while also contributing to Malayalam films. He began his career in the 1980s and has directed more than 40 films.

 

As a cinematographer, he has worked on notable Malayalam films including Dhruvam, Ammayane Sathyam, Commissioner, Pidakkozhi Koovunna Noottandu, Chamayam, The King and Kaattil Oru Kinnaram. His cinematography credits also extend across numerous Kannada productions.

 

Dinesh Babu made his mark as a director with Kannada films such as Suprabhatha (1988), Idu Saadhya (1989), Amrutha Varshini (1997) and Mazhavillu (1999). He subsequently directed films including Laali, Nishyabda, Abhi, Chitra, Hollywood, Magic Ajji, Neenello Naanalle and Bellary Naga.

 

His later credits include Ondu Kshanadalli (2012), Athi Aparoopa (2014), Priyanka (2016), Krishnam (2018/2019), Hagalu Kanasu (2019), Limit (2021), Kasthuri Mahal (2022) and Dear Krishna (2025), on which he served as director, cinematographer and writer.

 

With a career spanning several decades, Dinesh Babu has established himself as a versatile filmmaker whose work covers directing, cinematography and screenwriting across South Indian cinema.
