Biography
Best known for playing the roles of James `Sonny` Crockett in the TV series Miami Vice, Donald Wayne is a multiple award-winning actor, producer, director, songwriter, and singer from America.
The veteran who has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was interested in theatre performance from a very early age. He took an active part in theatre programs in school while he was studying at Wichita South High School; during his senior year, he played the role of Tony in West Side Story.
After completing his school, Johnson went on to study drama at the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco. In 1969, he got his first major role in a professional theatre role with the Los Angeles state production Fortune and Men`s Eyes. He later continued to work on stage, film, and TV without gaining much fame or stardom.
After a successful stint as a theatre artist, Johnson made his debut on the silver screen with The Magic Garden of Stanley Sweetheart (1970), and over the years he has starred in more than 35 films. Some of his notable film credits include The Harrad Experiment (1973), Return to Macon County (1975), G.I. Joe: The Movie (1987), The Hot Spot (1990), Tin Cup (1996), and Goodboy Lover (1998).
Post-1998, Johnson took a break from acting in films before he made his comeback with Moondance Alexander (2007). His other projects include Book Club (2018) and Knives Out (2019).
Apart from films, Johnson has also worked extensively in the TV industry and has starred in about 50 TV series and TV films. Having made his debut on the small screen with Serge in 1971, he subsequently starred in series` like Kung Fu (1973), The City (1977), Katie: Portrait of a Centerfold (1978), From Here to Eternity (1980), Tales of the Unexpected (1985), Seriously... Phil Collins (1990), Word of Honor (2003), From Dusk till Dawn: The Series (2014-15), and LA to Vegas (2018).
