Durgesh Singh
Biography
Durgesh Singh (born 27 November 1987) is an Indian writer, best known for his work on the award-winning web series Gullak, specifically Seasons 2 and 3.
Early Life and Education
Durgesh Singh was born in Gulzarganj, Uttar Pradesh, India. He completed his schooling in his hometown before enrolling at Allahabad University, where he was introduced to literature and prolific writers. He developed a deep interest in storytelling, ultimately completing a Master’s degree in Mass Communication.
Career
Durgesh moved to Mumbai in 2012 to pursue a career in writing. He began as a junior writer for Nilesh Mishra’s acclaimed show Yaadon Ka Idiot Box and was quickly promoted to lead writer due to his talent and dedication. Seeking creative diversity, he later transitioned into advertising, working with top agencies such as DDB Mudra, Leo Burnett, and Ogilvy.
His break in digital storytelling came when Amrit Raj Gupta, director of Gullak Season 1, approached him to write the title track for the show. The positive response to the track Yaadon Ki Gullak inspired Singh to focus on content writing for web series.
Durgesh’s genuine and heartfelt storytelling earned him the opportunity to write Gullak Seasons 2 and 3. Both seasons received critical acclaim, with Season 2 winning five Filmfare OTT Awards in 2021 and Season 3 securing three Filmfare OTT Awards in 2022, including Best Comedy Show for two consecutive years.
