Biography

Dylan McDermott is an American actor and producer known for his work in film and television. He was born Mark Anthony McDermott on October 26, 1961, in Waterbury, Connecticut.

 

 

Early Life and Career

McDermott developed an interest in acting while studying at Fordham University and later trained at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York. He began his professional career with supporting roles in films and television before gaining wider recognition.

His early film appearances included Hamburger Hill (1987), Steel Magnolias (1989), In the Line of Fire (1993), and Miracle on 34th Street (1994).

 

 

Breakthrough with The Practice

McDermott achieved major television success as Bobby Donnell in the legal drama The Practice (1997–2004). His performance earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Series – Drama and helped establish him as a leading television performer.

 

 

Film Career

McDermott has appeared in a wide variety of films, including Three to Tango (1999), Wonderland (2003), Party Monster (2003), The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012), Olympus Has Fallen (2013), and Survivor (2015).

He also appeared in Blind (2017), a romantic drama starring Alec Baldwin and Demi Moore.

 

 

Television Work

McDermott became particularly associated with Ryan Murphy's anthology series American Horror Story. He appeared in the first season, Murder House (2011), and returned for later seasons in different roles.

His other television credits include Dark Blue, Hostages, Stalker, Law & Order: Organized Crime, and FBI: Most Wanted. He has continued to take on prominent roles in crime dramas, thrillers, and limited series.

 

 

Personal Life

McDermott was previously married to actress Shiva Rose, with whom he has two daughters. He later married actress Maggie Q in 2024.
