Edo Van Breemen
Biography
Edo Van Breemen is a Canadian composer, musician, and immersive sound producer based in Vancouver, British Columbia. He has a background in classical piano and environmental science, holding a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of British Columbia.
Musical Endeavors
Brasstronaut
In 2007, Van Breemen co-founded the band Brasstronaut, where he served as the pianist and lead vocalist. The group, known for blending pop, rock, and jazz elements, contributed to Vancouver's vibrant music scene.
Unfamiliar Records
Beyond performing, Van Breemen played a pivotal role in nurturing local talent as the acting director of Unfamiliar Records. Through this platform, he helped launch the careers of several artists who have since gained international recognition.
Film Scoring and Composition
Transitioning into film scoring, Van Breemen's first major project was the 2013 horror film Afflicted. He has since composed music for various films, including:

His work on Handle With Care earned him and collaborator Johannes Winkler a Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Original Music in a Documentary at the 11th Canadian Screen Awards in 2023.
Immersive Sound and Spatial Audio
Van Breemen co-founded Lobe Studio in Vancouver, the first 4DSOUND venue integrated with a multi-channel haptic floor. At Lobe, he focuses on creating immersive sound experiences and has developed projects like "The Mind, Body & Inner Ear," which combines spatial sound with therapeutic practices.
Additionally, he is involved in "Earth Cry," a project that sonifies climate change data, which debuted at the CTM Festival in Berlin.
