Biography
Ellen Pompeo is an American actress and producer, born on November 10, 1969, in Everett, Massachusetts. She began her career with commercials and television appearances before gaining attention through films such as Moonlight Mile, Catch Me If You Can, and Old School.
Pompeo achieved worldwide fame in 2005 when she was cast as Dr. Meredith Grey in the medical drama Grey's Anatomy. Her performance made Meredith one of television's most recognizable characters, and Pompeo received a Golden Globe nomination and a Screen Actors Guild Award as part of the show's ensemble.
Beyond acting, she became an executive producer and directed episodes of Grey's Anatomy. In 2011, she founded Calamity Jane, her own production company. She also served as a producer on the spin-off Station 19.
Pompeo later starred in and executive-produced the Hulu limited series Good American Family (2025), taking on a major role outside Grey's Anatomy for the first time in two decades.
