Emma Mackey
Biography
Emma Mackey was born on 4 January 1996 in Le Mans, France. She is a French-British actress who moved to England at 17 and studied English Language and Literature at the University of Leeds, graduating in 2016.
Mackey made her breakthrough with Netflix's Sex Education (2019–2023), playing Maeve Wiley, an intelligent and independent student who teams up with Otis Milburn to run an underground sex-advice clinic at their school. The role brought her widespread recognition and earned her a BAFTA Rising Star Award.
She subsequently appeared in films including Eiffel (2021), Death on the Nile (2022), and Emily (2022), in which she portrayed writer Emily Brontë. In 2023, she played Physicist Barbie in Greta Gerwig's Barbie.
Her later credits include Hot Milk (2025), Ella McCay (2025), and Alpha (2025). She is also set to portray Jadis, the White Witch, in Greta Gerwig's The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew.
