Biography
Everett Sloane was an American character actor, director, and writer best known for his memorable supporting roles in classic Hollywood films and television. He was born on October 1, 1909, in New York City.
Sloane was a member of Orson Welles' Mercury Theatre and made his Broadway debut in Boy Meets Girl in 1935. He later appeared in Welles' acclaimed films Citizen Kane (1941), playing Mr. Bernstein, and The Lady from Shanghai (1947), in which he portrayed Arthur Bannister.
Other notable films in his career included The Men (1950), The Enforcer (1951), Patterns (1956), Somebody Up There Likes Me (1956), The Big Knife (1955), and The Patsy (1964). His performance as Walter Ramsey in Patterns earned him an Emmy nomination in 1956.
Sloane also worked extensively in television and provided voice work for animated productions such as The Dick Tracy Show and Jonny Quest. He died on August 6, 1965, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 55.
