Faruk Kabir
Biography
Faruk began his journey in the film industry as an Assistant Director to veterans like Aziz Mirza and Santosh Sivam, later refining his craft in Screenwriting and Filmmaking at the prestigious New York Film Academy (NYFA).
He made his independent directorial debut with the acclaimed documentary Unheard Voices of the People of India, traveling 27,000 kilometers by road. The documentary was produced by three-time National Award-winning director and producer Saeed Mirza.
Faruk’s sensitive short film Awakening, starring Ajay Devgn, highlighted the issue of urban water disasters and received widespread appreciation. He has also directed over a dozen music videos for T-Series, working with artists like Sanober, Jassi, and Mikka, and produced plays for the NCPA theatre festival, including hits like Bade Miyan Diwanae and Falsafa.
His portfolio also includes directing TV commercials for brands such as UP Tourism, Jabong, and Tata, and serving as Honorary Creative Director for Mumbai’s largest Out-of-Home media company, Roshan Space.
Faruk’s debut feature film, Allah Ke Banday, brought together an ensemble cast including Naseeruddin Shah, Sharman Joshi, and Atul Kulkarni. The film tackled juvenile crime with a mature yet entertaining narrative, earning 13 nominations in 2011, including Best Debut Director nods at the Filmfare and Star Screen Awards, as well as recognition at Stardust, Balaji, and IIFA Awards.
Currently, Faruk has created and directed India’s first horror web series, Shockers, on Hotstar, under his production house Spiders Web. The series features actors like Kalki Koechlin, Dia Mirza, Amit Sadh, Amyra Dastur, and Prateik Babbar.
