Biography
Frank Rooney was an American writer remembered primarily for his contribution to the classic motorcycle drama The Wild One (1953).
Career
Rooney wrote the short story “The Cyclists’ Raid,” which was published in Harper’s Magazine in 1951. The story was inspired by the motorcycle disturbance in Hollister, California, in 1947.
The story was later adapted into the film ** The Wild One (1953)**. Directed by László Benedek, the movie starred Marlon Brando, Mary Murphy, Robert Keith, and Lee Marvin. Rooney received story credit alongside screenwriters John Paxton and Ben Maddow.
The Wild One
The Wild One follows motorcycle gang leader Johnny Strabler, played by Marlon Brando, as he leads his gang into a small California town. Johnny becomes attracted to Kathie Bleeker, the sheriff's daughter, while a rival gang led by Chino, played by Lee Marvin, creates further conflict.
The film became an influential depiction of postwar youth rebellion and helped establish the leather-clad motorcycle outlaw as an enduring image in popular culture.
