Biography
Fred Hechinger, born on December 2, 1999, is an emerging American actor. He was born in New York City to parents Sarah Rozen and Paul Hechinger, and his grandfather was the New York Times education editor Fred M. Hechinger. He grew up in New York City and attended Saint Ann's School.
He began his acting career with supporting roles in films such as the coming-of-age movie "Eighth Grade" (2018), the period drama "News of the World" (2020), and the psychological thriller "The Woman in the Window" (2021).
His breakout role came in the first season of the HBO anthology series "The White Lotus" (2021), where he portrayed Quinn Mossbacher. He also starred in the Netflix horror trilogy "Fear Street" in 2021 and the miniseries "Pam & Tommy" in 2022.
In 2024, Hechinger appeared in the comedy film "Thelma" and the drama film "Nickel Boys." He also portrayed Emperor Caracalla in Ridley Scott's historical epic "Gladiator II" (2024) and Dmitri Smerdyakov/Chameleon in the Marvel film "Kraven the Hunter" (2024).
Beyond acting, Hechinger has also directed music videos. He directed "Blue Hippo" for his former classmate Maya Hawke in 2021 and "Triptych" for Samia in 2020. He also served as a producer for the films "Thelma" (2024) and "Hell of a Summer" (2023).
