Gang Dong Won

Biography

Gang Dong-won is a South Korean actor and former model, born on January 18, 1981, in Busan, South Korea. He graduated with honors in mechanical engineering from Hanyang University before entering the entertainment industry as a fashion model around 2000. He made his television acting debut in 2003 and soon transitioned successfully to film.

His breakthrough came with Temptation of Wolves (2004), which made him a major star in South Korea and gained him popularity in other Asian countries. He followed it with films such as Duelist (2005), Maundy Thursday (2006), Voice of a Murderer (2007), and M (2007).

Gang continued to demonstrate his versatility in Woochi (2009), Secret Reunion (2010), Haunters (2010), Kundo: Age of the Rampant (2014), and The Priests (2015). His performance in Secret Reunion earned him the Best Actor award from the Korean Association of Film Critics.

He subsequently starred in A Violent Prosecutor (2016), Vanishing Time: A Boy Who Returned (2016), Master (2016), 1987: When the Day Comes (2017), Golden Slumber (2018), and Illang: The Wolf Brigade (2018). His later film credits include Peninsula (2020), Broker (2022), Dr. Cheon and the Lost Talisman (2023), The Plot (2024), and Uprising (2024).

Gang returned to television in Tempest (2025), starring opposite Jun Ji-hyun as Baek San-ho, a former elite international mercenary with a mysterious past who becomes involved with diplomat Seo Mun-ju.

His filmography spans romance, action, crime, thriller, historical drama, science fiction, fantasy, horror, and mystery. Known for his distinctive screen presence and willingness to take on contrasting roles, Gang Dong-won has become one of South Korea's prominent contemporary film actors.
