Garry Michael White is an American playwright and screenwriter known for his contributions to film and theater. He studied at San Francisco State University and the Goodman Theatre School of Drama in Chicago, laying the foundation for his career in writing and storytelling.

 

Career Highlights

White's most acclaimed work is the screenplay for Scarecrow (1973), a road drama directed by Jerry Schatzberg and starring Al Pacino and Gene Hackman. The film won the Palme d'Or at the 1973 Cannes Film Festival, sharing the honor with The Hireling.

 

He also co-wrote Sky Riders (1976), an action-adventure film featuring James Coburn, and penned the screenplay for The Promise (1979), a romantic drama directed by Gilbert Cates.

 

In addition to his film work, White has been active in theater. His full-length play Wish Mirage was presented in a staged reading in New York in December 2020.
