Gbemisola Ikumelo
Biography
Gbemisola Ikumelo is a British actress, comedian, writer, director, and producer of Yoruba heritage. Born in Ondo State, Nigeria, she moved to England as a child and joined the National Youth Theatre at the age of 15. She later studied acting at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh.
Ikumelo gained recognition through the BBC sketch-comedy series Famalam, where she played a variety of characters. She also wrote, directed, and starred in the short film Brain in Gear, which won a BAFTA Television Award in 2020.
She became internationally known for playing Clance Morgan in the Amazon Prime Video series A League of Their Own (2022). Her performance earned her an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Supporting Performance in a New Scripted Series. Clance is Max Chapman's best friend and an aspiring comic-book artist.
Ikumelo later starred as Dominique “Dom” Archibald in the BBC comedy series Black Ops, a role that earned her the 2024 BAFTA TV Award for Female Performance in a Comedy Programme. She has also appeared in The Power, The Last Tree, Roadkill, and The Paper.
With experience across television, film, comedy, writing, directing, and theater, Gbemisola Ikumelo has established herself as a versatile performer and creator, particularly recognized for Famalam, Brain in Gear, A League of Their Own, and Black Ops.
