Biography
George Englund was an American actor, film director, producer, and screenwriter best known for his work in Hollywood during the 1960s and 1970s.
He was born June 22, 1926, in Washington, D.C. Englund began his career as an actor and later moved into directing and producing.
His best-known directorial works include The Ugly American (1963), starring Marlon Brando, Signpost to Murder (1964), and The Walking Stick (1970). The Ugly American was adapted from the 1958 novel by Eugene Burdick and William J. Lederer and dealt with American foreign policy and political tensions in Southeast Asia.
Englund also worked as a producer on several films and television projects. He was married to actress Cloris Leachman from 1953 to 1979, and they had five children.
George Englund died on September 14, 2017, in Palm Springs, California, at the age of 91.
