Geraldine Chaplin is a British-American actress known for her extensive career in international cinema. She is the daughter of legendary filmmaker and comedian Charlie Chaplin and his fourth wife, Oona O'Neill. Geraldine Leigh Chaplin was born on July 31, 1944, in Santa Monica, California, United States. She was the first child of Charlie Chaplin and Oona O'Neill. Growing up in the Chaplin family exposed her to the world of cinema, but she initially pursued interests outside acting.

She studied ballet and spent part of her youth at boarding schools in Switzerland. Although she had initially considered becoming a professional dancer, she eventually turned toward acting.

Acting Career

Chaplin began her film career in the 1960s. Her breakthrough came when she was cast by director David Lean as Tonya in Doctor Zhivago (1965). The epic romantic drama became an international success and established her as a promising young actress.

She subsequently worked with acclaimed filmmakers in Europe and Hollywood. One of her most important professional relationships was with Spanish director Carlos Saura, with whom she collaborated on numerous films, including Peppermint Frappé (1967), Ana and the Wolves (1973), Cría cuervos (1976), and Elisa, vida mía (1977).
