Biography
Giancarlo Fontana and Giuseppe G. Stasi are an Italian directing and writing duo known for their satirical approach to politics, society, and current affairs. They began working together in 2011, creating humorous web videos such as Inception Made in Italy and Il Processo Ruby, which became popular online and collectively attracted more than one million views.
They later created spoof trailers and comedy shorts for Italian television programs including Un due tre stella, Blob, NeriPoppins, and Gli Sgommati. Their work became known for combining political satire with sharp and unconventional humor.
Their first feature film, Amore Oggi (2014), was produced by Sky Cinema and initially broadcast on Sky Cinema Uno. The film performed strongly and was later released in cinemas by Warner Bros. during the Cinema Days event.
The duo achieved major success with Put Grandma in the Freezer (2018), starring Miriam Leone and Fabio De Luigi. Produced by Indigo Film, the comedy was released in around 400 cinemas and became one of the year's top-grossing films in Italy. It also received a Silver Ribbon nomination for Best Comedy.
In 2019, Fontana and Stasi directed Bentornato Presidente, a sequel to Welcome Mr. President! starring Claudio Bisio, Sarah Felberbaum, Pietro Sermonti, Guglielmo Poggi, and Paolo Calabresi. The film earned two Silver Ribbon nominations, including Best Comedy.
The pair later expanded into television and crime comedy, becoming known internationally for The Bad Guy (2022), which they co-created and directed with a distinctive blend of dark humor, crime, and satire.
