Biography

Gianmarco Tognazzi, born on October 11, 1967, in Rome, Italy, is a prominent Italian actor known for his work in cinema, television, and theatre. He is the son of celebrated actor and director Ugo Tognazzi and actress Franca Bettoia, and he was exposed to the world of cinema from an early age. He made his screen debut as a child in Non toccare la donna bianca (1974).

 

Tognazzi studied cinematography and television at the Roberto Rossellini Institute in Rome and also gained experience as an assistant director. In the late 1980s, he began developing his acting skills through theatre and training with Beatrice Bracco. His breakthrough came with A Simple Story (1991), for which he won a Grolla d'Oro.

 

Among his notable films are Ultrà (1991), Crack (1991), The Graduates (1995), Excellent Cadavers (1999), Romanzo Criminale (2005), Ex (2009), To Rome with Love (2012), Blame Freud (2014), Misunderstood (2014), A casa tutti bene (2018), Non ci resta che il crimine (2019), Gli uomini d'oro (2019), C'era una volta il crimine (2022), and Quando (2023). His performance in Romanzo Criminale earned him a Nastro d'Argento nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

 

He has also maintained a strong television career, appearing in productions such as Speravo de morì prima (2021), in which he portrayed football manager Luciano Spalletti, and Call My Agent – Italia. His recent screen credits include Ari-Cassamortari (2024), Dedalus (2025), 2 cuori e 2 capanne (2026), and Notte prima degli esami 3.0 (2026).
