Biography
Greg Daniels, born June 13, 1963, in Brooklyn, New York City, is an American television writer, producer, director, and showrunner. He is best known for his work on The Office, Parks and Recreation, King of the Hill, and Upload.
Early Life and Education
Daniels attended Harvard University, where he studied and became friends with fellow writer and comedian Conan O'Brien. He began his television writing career in the late 1980s and later worked on several major comedy programs.
Career
Daniels first gained recognition as a writer for Saturday Night Live and later joined the writing staff of The Simpsons. He subsequently became a co-creator of the animated sitcom King of the Hill with Mike Judge.
His biggest breakthrough came in 2005 when he adapted the British series The Office for American television. The series became a major success and earned Daniels an Emmy for his writing. He later co-created Parks and Recreation with Michael Schur, another acclaimed comedy that became one of television's most popular sitcoms.
Daniels went on to create the science-fiction comedy Upload, which premiered in 2020. The series explores a future where people can upload their consciousness into a virtual afterlife. He also co-created Space Force with Steve Carell.
In 2025, Daniels co-created The Paper, a mockumentary comedy set in the world of a struggling newspaper.
