Biography
Guido Verweyen is an Emmy Award-winning director and cinematographer, celebrated for his work across documentary, television, and commercial filmmaking. A graduate of the American Film Institute (AFI), Guido was born in the United States and raised in Europe, giving him a unique cross-cultural perspective that reflects in his storytelling and visual style.
He began his career as a director of photography on independent features and documentaries, including the Academy Award–nominated The Man on Lincoln’s Nose (2001) and the Oscar-shortlisted and SASA United Nations Award-winning Sastun – My Apprenticeship with a Maya Healer (2002), which he also directed and produced.
In 2011, Guido directed and produced After the Fire, a documentary feature based on the Pulitzer Prize–winning story and New York Times bestseller. The film won the Gold Remi Award at the Houston International Film Festival and multiple audience awards, earning praise from critics — with FilmThreat.com and The New York Times calling it “one of the most compelling documentaries in recent years.”
On the commercial front, his directing work earned him recognition in Shoot Magazine’s “Directors to Watch” Showcase (2008) at the Directors Guild of America, New York, with clients including Airbnb and Microsoft.
Guido’s non-fiction success led him to direct several acclaimed television series, such as America’s Next Top Model (CW), Starting Over (NBC) — which won him an Emmy Award in 2005 — and MTV’s True Life (2008), which received a Special Class Series Emmy. His other credits include Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style (Bravo), Hilary Duff: This Is Now (MTV), Dance Moms (Lifetime), and Raising Asia (Lifetime).
In 2017, Guido became a member of the Directors Guild of America (DGA) and expanded into scripted television, directing series like Murder Among Friends and Blood Relatives for Discovery ID.
