Gur Sidhu (born Gursimran Singh Sidhu on July 11, 1997) is a prominent Indian-Canadian singer, songwriter, and record producer known for his contributions to Punjabi music and cinema.
Early Life and Education
Gur Sidhu was born in Chak Fateh Singh Wala, Bathinda, Punjab, India, into a musically inclined Jat Sikh family. His father, Sukhbir Singh Sidhu, was a Punjabi singer, and his grandfather, Harnek Singh, a government Punjabi teacher with a passion for music, inspired Gur's early interest in the field. He attended Mahindra Public School in his hometown and, after completing his 12th standard, moved to Canada at the age of 19 to pursue further studies.
Career
Gur Sidhu began his musical journey with the single "Sarkaare" in 2016, which carried a political message. His breakthrough came in 2019 with the release of "Bro Oye" under White Hill Music, which garnered significant attention. The same year, he collaborated with Baani Sandhu on "8 Parche," a track that became immensely popular and solidified his position in the Punjabi music industry.
In 2019, Sidhu contributed to the Punjabi film Ardab Mutiyaran by composing and performing the song “Challa”. He has also composed hits like "Subaah Jatt Da" (sung by Amrit Maan), "Taare" (sung by Sidhu Moose Wala), and "Regret" (sung by R Nait).
His debut album, Nothing Like Before, released in 2021, featured tracks such as "Taakre," "Dekhi Jau," and "Ashke Ashke," showcasing his versatility. In 2022, he collaborated with Jasmine Sandlas on "Bamb Aagya," which charted on the UK Asian Music Chart and appeared on YouTube's Weekly Charts. The following year, he released "California Love" with Cheema Y, further expanding his international appeal.
