Biography

Sooraj Cherukat, professionally known as Hanumankind, is an Indian rapper, singer, songwriter, and actor from Kerala. Born on 17 October 1992 in Malappuram, Kerala, he is recognised for his distinctive rap style, energetic performances, powerful lyrics, and international influence. He has become one of the prominent names in India's contemporary hip-hop scene.

Hanumankind spent much of his childhood travelling to different countries, including Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Egypt, Qatar, and Italy, because of his father's work in the oil industry. His family eventually settled in Houston, Texas, where he developed an interest in hip-hop music. During his time in the United States, he was influenced by Southern American rap artists such as Three 6 Mafia, UGK, Project Pat, and DJ Screw.

After returning to India in 2012, he studied business administration at PSG College in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. He also worked in the corporate sector, including a period at Goldman Sachs, while continuing to develop his musical interests. Eventually, he decided to pursue music professionally and began performing at live events and open-mic sessions.

Hanumankind officially began his music career with the release of his debut single "Daily Dose" in 2019, which appeared on his first extended play, Kalari. He gained attention through his performances at NH7 Weekender and gradually established himself in the Indian independent hip-hop community. In 2020, he released his second EP, Surface Level, followed by singles such as "Genghis," "DAMNSON," "Go To Sleep," and "Southside."

His biggest breakthrough came in 2024 with the release of "Big Dawgs," produced in collaboration with Kalmi. The song became an international sensation, attracting millions of listeners through its powerful production and distinctive music video, which featured Hanumankind performing inside a traditional motorcycle stunt arena known as the Well of Death. Its success introduced him to a much wider global audience.

Apart from his solo music, Hanumankind has collaborated with several Indian musicians and producers, including Yashraj, Parimal Shais, and Kalmi. His music also includes "The Last Dance," featured in the Malayalam film Aavesham (2024). His sound combines international hip-hop influences with Indian musical elements and cultural references.

Alongside his music career, Hanumankind has entered the film industry as an actor. He appeared in the Tamil film Por (2024) and the Malayalam action thriller Rifle Club (2024), directed by Aashiq Abu, in which he played Bheera Bare. He has also contributed to film soundtracks as a playback singer.
