Harry Treadaway

Biography

Harry John Newman Treadaway, born on September 10, 1984, in Exeter, Devon, England, is a distinguished British actor renowned for his versatility across film, television, and stage. Raised in Sandford, Devon, he is the son of an architect father and a primary school teacher mother. Harry has a twin brother, Luke Treadaway, who is also an accomplished actor.

Both brothers attended Queen Elizabeth's Community College in Crediton, Devon, where they were active in rugby and nurtured a passion for music, forming a band called Lizardsun. Their shared interest in performance led them to join the National Youth Theatre. Harry further honed his acting skills at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), graduating in 2006.

Treadaway's professional acting debut came while he was still at drama school, starring alongside his brother Luke in the 2005 film "Brothers of the Head." The film, which tells the story of conjoined twin brothers in a punk rock band, showcased Harry's musical talents as he performed all tracks live on stage and contributed to the soundtrack.

In 2007, he portrayed Joy Division drummer Stephen Morris in the biographical film "Control," further establishing his presence in the film industry. His television career includes notable roles such as Mark Brogan in Channel 4's "Cape Wrath" (2007) and Victor Frankenstein in Showtime's "Penny Dreadful" (2014–2016), where his performance was critically acclaimed.

Treadaway's versatility is evident in his diverse filmography, with roles in "City of Ember" (2008), "Fish Tank" (2009), and "The Lone Ranger" (2013). He also starred as Brady Hartsfield in the television adaptation of Stephen King's "Mr. Mercedes" (2017–2018), delivering a compelling portrayal of a complex antagonist.

In 2019, he appeared as Roddy Llewellyn in Netflix's acclaimed series "The Crown," and in 2020, he took on the role of Narek in "Star Trek: Picard." His recent work includes playing Detective Inspector Keith Pedder in the 2021 drama "Deceit," which delves into a real-life undercover operation by the Metropolitan Police.

Beyond his screen endeavors, Treadaway has a strong presence in theater. In 2009, he made his stage debut in "Over There" at the Royal Court Theatre, performing alongside his twin brother. In 2024, he portrayed Tom Joad in "The Grapes of Wrath" at the Royal National Theatre, demonstrating his continued commitment to the stage.

On a personal note, Treadaway has been in a relationship with actress Holliday Grainger since 2015. The couple welcomed twins in 2021.
