Biography
Hope Lange was an American actress known for her work in film and television, particularly during the 1950s through the 1970s.
She was born Hope Elise Ross Lange on November 28, 1933, in Redding, Connecticut. She began her career as a model before moving into acting and made her film debut in Bus Stop (1956).
Lange gained recognition for films such as Peyton Place (1957), The Young Lions (1958), Wild in the Country (1961), and The Caretakers (1963). She received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for Peyton Place.
She also became highly popular on television. She won two Primetime Emmy Awards for her performance as Carolyn Muir in the sitcom The Ghost & Mrs. Muir, which ran from 1968 to 1970.
Hope Lange continued acting in films and television throughout her career. She died on December 19, 2003, in Santa Monica, California, at the age of 70.
