Biography
Hubert Cornfield (1929–2006) was an American film director, screenwriter, and producer known for his work in British and American cinema. Born in the United States, he began his career as a screenwriter before moving into directing.
Cornfield directed several films during the 1960s and 1970s, working primarily in the crime, thriller, and drama genres. His notable directorial credits include Night of the Following Day (1968), starring Marlon Brando, Richard Boone, Pamela Franklin, and Rita Moreno. The film follows a group of criminals who kidnap a wealthy young woman and attempt to hold her for ransom.
He also directed The Americanization of Emily (1964) as an uncredited contributor and later worked on films such as The Young Racers (1963) and The Night of the Following Day. His filmmaking was characterized by psychological tension, crime themes, and unconventional characters.
Cornfield also worked in television and contributed to several productions as a writer and producer. Although his directing career was relatively limited, his association with Night of the Following Day remains one of his best-known contributions to cinema.
Hubert Cornfield died in 2006, leaving behind a body of work that included film direction, screenwriting, and production.
