Ian Deitchman
Biography
Ian Deitchman is an American screenwriter and television producer who has worked extensively with his longtime writing partner, Kristin Rusk Robinson. After graduating from Northwestern University's Radio/TV/Film program, he began his career at James L. Brooks' Gracie Films. He later became active in the Writers Guild of America, West, serving two terms on its Board of Directors from 2009 to 2013.
Deitchman and Robinson wrote the screenplay for the 2010 romantic comedy-drama Life as We Know It, starring Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel. They later worked in television, contributing to series including Parenthood, Rise, Almost Family, As We See It, The Bold Type, Suits, and Ordinary Joe.
In 2026, Deitchman and Robinson created the family drama series It's Not Like That, starring Scott Foley and Erinn Hayes. The eight-episode series explores grief, friendship, family, parenthood, and the possibility of romance between two longtime friends navigating major changes in their lives. Deitchman also served as an executive producer and showrunner alongside Robinson.
