Biography

Ian Hultquist is an American composer, musician, and producer best known for his work in film scoring and as a founding member of the indie pop band Passion Pit. Born on October 31, 1985, in the United States, Hultquist studied film scoring at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. His formal music education helped him develop a unique blend of electronic, orchestral, and atmospheric styles that characterize his work today.

 

Career
Hultquist began his professional music career as a guitarist and keyboardist for Passion Pit, a band he co-founded in 2007. He toured extensively with the group and contributed to their early success, including their breakout debut album Manners (2009). In 2014, he left the band to pursue a full-time career in film composition.

 

Since then, Hultquist has built a solid reputation in the film and television industry. He has scored a wide range of projects, including documentaries, narrative films, and streaming series. His notable works include the Netflix documentary The Ivory Game (2016), which was executive produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, and the thriller Assassination Nation (2018). 

 

He also composed music for films such as Dickinson (Apple TV+), Animals, and My Blind Brother.

Hultquist frequently collaborates with his wife, Sofia Hultquist (also known as Drum & Lace), on various scoring projects. Together, they have created soundscapes for fashion campaigns, film, and TV, blending classical composition with modern electronic elements.
