Iggy Pop was an American rock musician, singer, songwriter, and actor, widely regarded as one of the pioneers of punk rock.
He was born James Newell Osterberg Jr. on April 21, 1947, in Muskegon, Michigan. He became famous as the lead singer of The Stooges, whose aggressive sound and unpredictable live performances had a major influence on punk and alternative rock.
With The Stooges, he recorded influential albums including The Stooges (1969), Fun House (1970), and Raw Power (1973). As a solo artist, he released acclaimed albums such as The Idiot (1977), Lust for Life (1977), and Blah-Blah-Blah (1986).
Iggy Pop has also acted in numerous films and television productions. His screen appearances include The Color of Money (1986), Cry-Baby (1990), Dead Man (1995), The Crow: City of Angels (1996), and Coffee and Cigarettes (2003). He also appeared in The Brave (1997), directed by Johnny Depp.
