Indira Billi (6 August 1936 – 16 June 2025) was an Indian actress known for her work in Hindi and Punjabi films.
Early Life and Career
Indira Billi was born as Indira Kaur on 6 August 1936 in Dinanagar (then in British India). She spent part of her childhood in Kharian before her family migrated to India following the Partition of India. The family initially settled in Kanpur and later moved to Mumbai in 1952.
She appeared as a leading actress in numerous Punjabi films and also played supporting roles in Hindi cinema. Known for her striking beauty and distinctive blue eyes, she attracted attention from film studios early on. To distinguish her from another actress, Indira Bansal, filmmakers gave her the screen name “Indira Billi,” inspired by her eye color.
Personal Life and Death
She married Shiv Kumar Mehra, a cinema owner from Delhi. After her marriage, she retired from acting to focus on her family life.
Indira Billi passed away on 16 June 2025 at the age of 88.
