Biography

Ivan Albright (1897–1983) was an American painter celebrated for his meticulously detailed and often unsettling depictions of the human figure. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Albright was exposed to art from an early age; both of his parents were artists, which fostered his deep appreciation for visual expression. He trained at the Art Institute of Chicago and later at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, where he developed his extraordinary technical skill and commitment to realism.

Albright’s career is distinguished by his unique approach to painting, combining hyper-realistic detail with an intense psychological depth. He is particularly known for portraying the effects of aging, illness, and decay on the human body, creating works that are simultaneously beautiful and grotesque.
