Biography

Jackie Cooper (15 September 1922 – 3 May 2011) was an American actor, television director, and producer who became one of the most successful child stars in Hollywood history. Born in Los Angeles, California, USA, he began acting at a very young age and became famous as one of the leading performers of the Our Gang comedy shorts.

Cooper gained worldwide recognition for his emotional performance in Skippy, becoming the youngest actor ever nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor at the age of nine. His success as a child performer made him one of the most celebrated young stars of the early sound era.

After transitioning successfully into adult roles, Cooper appeared in numerous films and television productions. He became widely known for portraying newspaper editor Perry White in Superman: The Movie, Superman II, and Superman III alongside Christopher Reeve.

His other notable film credits include The Champ, The Devil Is a Sissy, and The Champ. He also built a successful career as a television director, working on popular series such as M*A*S*H, for which he won an Emmy Award.

Beyond acting, Cooper served as an executive and producer at major television networks and played an important role behind the scenes in the entertainment industry. His career spanned more than seven decades, making him one of the rare performers to achieve success as a child actor, adult actor, and director.
