Biography
James Foley was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Staten Island. Initially pursuing pre-med and psychoanalysis at the University of Buffalo, he later shifted his focus to filmmaking. Foley earned a Master of Fine Arts in Film Production from the University of Southern California (USC). During his time at USC, renowned director Hal Ashby took notice of his student films, which led to Foley's early opportunities in Hollywood.
