Jamyang Jamtsho Wangchuk was born on March 20, 1975, in Thimphu, Bhutan. He is a descendant of the prominent Tibetan religious figure Pema Lingpa, a lineage that has influenced his cultural and spiritual upbringing. Wangchuk pursued his education abroad, studying at St. Paul’s School in Darjeeling before earning degrees from Harvard University, where he focused on English and Asian studies.

 

 

Career

Wangchuk gained international recognition at a young age for his role as the 14th Dalai Lama in Seven Years in Tibet, directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud. His performance was widely praised for its warmth, authenticity, and emotional depth.
