Biography

Jason Bateman (born January 14, 1969) is an American actor, director, and producer who has enjoyed a remarkably enduring and multifaceted career in Hollywood. Born in Rye, New York, Bateman's acting journey began at a young age, landing roles in popular television shows like "Little House on the Prairie," "Silver Spoons," and "The Hogan Family," establishing him as a teen idol in the 1980s.   

Despite early success, Bateman navigated a period of less prominent roles before experiencing a significant career resurgence in the early 2000s. This comeback was largely fueled by his critically acclaimed performance as the level-headed Michael Bluth in the groundbreaking and beloved sitcom "Arrested Development" (2003-2006, 2013, 2018-2019). His portrayal earned him a Golden Globe Award and multiple Emmy nominations, showcasing his sharp comedic timing and understated delivery.   

Following the success of "Arrested Development," Bateman seamlessly transitioned into a successful film career, demonstrating his range in both comedic and dramatic roles. Notable film credits include "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story," "Juno," "Up in the Air," "Horrible Bosses," "Identity Thief," and "Game Night." He has proven his ability to anchor both broad comedies and more nuanced character-driven stories.   

In recent years, Bateman has expanded his creative endeavors to include directing and producing. He has directed multiple episodes of "Arrested Development" and the Netflix crime drama series "Ozark," where he also starred as Marty Byrde. His compelling performance in "Ozark" earned him a Screen Actors Guild Award and two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series. He also served as an executive producer on the show, further highlighting his creative influence.

Beyond "Ozark," Bateman has directed episodes of other series and produced projects like "The Outsider" and "A Teacher." He also co-hosts the popular podcast "SmartLess" with Sean Hayes and Will Arnett.
