Jason David Frank was born in Covina, California. He developed an interest in martial arts at a young age and spent many years training in different fighting disciplines. His martial arts experience later became a major part of his acting career, particularly in productions requiring physical combat and fight choreography.

He achieved advanced ranks in several disciplines, including Shotokan karate, taekwondo, and judo. He also trained in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai. In 1994, he created his own martial arts system, Toso Kune Do, combining techniques and principles from his training

Frank made his breakthrough as Tommy Oliver in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Tommy initially appeared as the Green Ranger under Rita Repulsa's control before becoming an ally of the Rangers.

Although the character was initially intended to appear for a limited number of episodes, audience popularity led to his return as the White Ranger and eventually the team's leader. This role established Frank as a central figure in the franchise
