Jean Doumanian is an American producer known for her work in film, television, and theater. Early Life and Career Beginnings

Jean Doumanian was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She entered the entertainment industry in the 1970s, initially gaining experience in television production. Her early work included a role on The Dick Cavett Show, where she became involved with high-profile guests and cultural figures, developing strong connections within the industry.

Saturday Night Live and Television

Doumanian is perhaps most widely recognized for her controversial tenure as executive producer of Saturday Night Live during the 1980–1981 season. Following the departure of creator Lorne Michaels, she was chosen to lead the show through a difficult transitional period. Despite the season being critically panned and marked by creative challenges, it was notable for introducing new cast members who would go on to achieve fame.

Transition to Film and Theater

After leaving television, Doumanian shifted her focus to film production. She formed her own production company and developed a strong collaboration with writer-director Woody Allen. Over the years, she produced several of Allen’s films, including Bullets Over Broadway (1994), Mighty Aphrodite (1995), Sweet and Lowdown (1999), and Deconstructing Harry (1997), many of which received critical acclaim and awards recognition.

In addition to film, Doumanian made a name for herself in theater. She produced numerous Broadway and Off-Broadway shows, supporting both original works and revivals.
