Jeanne Tripplehorn

Biography

Jeanne Marie Tripplehorn was born on June 10, 1963, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her father, Tom Tripplehorn, was a guitarist who played with Gary Lewis & the Playboys. After her parents' divorce when she was two, Jeanne pursued her education at Edison High School, graduating in 1981. She briefly attended the University of Tulsa before moving to New York City to study at the Juilliard School's Drama Division, where she was part of Group 19 alongside actress Laura Linney.

 

 

Stage Career

Tripplehorn's acting career began on stage. In 1990, she appeared Off-Broadway in John Patrick Shanley's "The Big Funk." She later co-starred with Val Kilmer in a 1993 production of John Ford's "'Tis Pity She's a Whore." Her Broadway debut came with Anton Chekhov's "Three Sisters," performing alongside Amy Irving and Lili Taylor.

 

 

Film Career

Tripplehorn made her film debut in 1992, portraying a police psychologist in the erotic thriller "Basic Instinct." She gained further recognition with roles in:

"The Firm" (1993) as Abby McDeere, opposite Tom Cruise.

"Waterworld" (1995) alongside Kevin Costner.

"Sliding Doors" (1998), a British romantic comedy-drama.

In 1999, she appeared opposite Hugh Grant in "Mickey Blue Eyes."

 

 

Television Career

On television, Tripplehorn starred as Barbara Henrickson in the HBO drama series "Big Love" (2006–2011), a role that brought her critical acclaim. In 2009, she portrayed Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in the HBO movie "Grey Gardens," earning a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie. She joined the cast of CBS's "Criminal Minds" in 2012 as Dr. Alex Blake, remaining until 2014. More recently, she appeared in the Hulu miniseries "Mrs. America" (2020) and had a recurring role in HBO's "The Gilded Age."

 

 

Personal Life

In 2000, Tripplehorn married actor Leland Orser, and they have a son together.
