Jean Paul Lal
Biography
Jean Paul Lal, also known as Lal Jr., is an Indian film director, actor and writer who works primarily in Malayalam cinema. Born on 2 June 1988 in Kochi, Kerala, he is the son of actor-filmmaker Lal. He studied filmmaking at the New York Film Academy.
He made his directorial debut with Honey Bee (2013), a romantic comedy starring Asif Ali, Bhavana, Sreenath Bhasi and Balu Varghese. The film was a commercial success and established him as a young filmmaker in Malayalam cinema.
He subsequently directed Hi I'm Tony (2014), Honey Bee 2: Celebrations (2017), Driving Licence (2019) and Tsunami (2021). His film Driving Licence, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu, became one of his most notable directorial works.
In Nadikar (2024), Jean Paul Lal directed Tovino Thomas in a comedy-drama set against the film industry. He has also developed an acting career, appearing in Under World (2019), Corona Papers (2023) and Manjummel Boys (2024), where he played Siju.
