Jimmy Nelson is a British photographer, author, and visual storyteller best known for his striking portraits of Indigenous and traditional cultures from around the world. He was born on October 7, 1967, in Sevenoaks, Kent, England. During his childhood, he lived in several countries across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, experiences that sparked his lifelong fascination with different cultures and people.

At the age of 17, Nelson embarked on a remarkable journey through Tibet, traveling on foot for over a year. The photographs he captured during this expedition were widely published and marked the beginning of his professional career. He later worked as a commercial photographer before dedicating himself to documenting Indigenous communities across the globe.

Jimmy Nelson gained international recognition with his bestselling photographic book Before They Pass Away (2013), a project featuring portraits of tribal and Indigenous peoples from remote regions.
