Joel Courtney is an American actor best known for his work in film and television, rising to prominence with his breakout role in J.J. Abrams’ science-fiction drama Super 8 (2011). Born on January 31, 1996, in Monterey, California, Courtney grew up in a military family and spent much of his childhood in Idaho before pursuing acting.
Courtney’s career began impressively when he landed the lead role of Joe Lamb in Super 8 during his very first visit to Los Angeles. His heartfelt performance earned him widespread acclaim, including a Saturn Award for Best Performance by a Younger Actor. Following this success, he continued to build his filmography with roles in Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn (2014), Mercy (2014), and The Messengers (2015).
In 2018, Courtney gained renewed international attention for his role as Lee Flynn in the hit teen romantic comedy The Kissing Booth, later reprising the character in its sequels The Kissing Booth 2 (2020) and The Kissing Booth 3 (2021).
