Biography
Johnny Martin is a seasoned American filmmaker with a career spanning over four decades in the film and television industry. Starting at just eighteen, he built his reputation from the ground up, evolving from a highly accomplished stuntman to a celebrated stunt coordinator, second-unit director, producer, and now, a feature film director.
Martin's early career as a stuntman quickly led to roles as a stunt coordinator and second-unit director. In these capacities, he contributed to over 260 films, TV shows, and commercials. His exceptional work earned him the "Best Stunt Coordinator of the Year" award for Gone in 60 Seconds, along with two Emmy nominations and a Screen Actors Guild award nomination, showcasing his expertise in crafting dynamic action sequences.
In 2003, Martin founded his own production company, Martini Films. The company hit the ground running, producing three films in its inaugural year, two of which were recognized as SYFY Channel's "Premiere of the Year." Martini Films achieved a significant milestone in 2012 by becoming one of the first U.S. companies to partner with China Film Group (CFG) on the feature film Urban Games, shot entirely in China and Korea. Since then, Martini Films has produced 20 films for major studios including Lionsgate, Sony, Paramount, and Saban.
Martin expanded his career into directing in 2014 with the horror film Delirium, which garnered critical acclaim, winning three film festivals and securing a theatrical release. His directorial portfolio further grew with Vengeance: A Love Story (2016), starring Nicholas Cage and Don Johnson, and Hangman (2017), featuring Al Pacino, Karl Urban, and Brittany Snow. He is currently in post-production on Alone, starring Donald Sutherland and Tyler Posey.
Martin credits the late director Tony Scott for mentoring him and preparing him for his directorial endeavors. In recognition of his significant contributions to the industry, Johnny Martin was invited to become a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2018.
