Biography
John Patrick was an American playwright and screenwriter best known for his work in theatre and for adapting several of his successful plays for the screen.
He was born John Patrick Goggin on May 17, 1905, in Louisville, Kentucky. He began his career writing for radio before becoming a successful playwright.
His best-known works include The Teahouse of the August Moon, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1954, and Everybody Loves Opal. The Teahouse of the August Moon was later adapted into the 1956 film directed by Daniel Mann and starring Marlon Brando.
Patrick also wrote screenplays for films including The Teahouse of the August Moon (1956), Three Coins in the Fountain (1954), Les Girls (1957), and The World of Suzie Wong (1960).
His writing often combined humor with observations about cultural differences, human relationships, and social conventions.
John Patrick died on November 7, 1995, in Delray Beach, Florida, at the age of 90.
