Biography

Born on December 26, 1980, in Seoul, South Korea, Jo Jung-suk is a multifaceted actor renowned for his dynamic performances across theater, film, and television. He began his artistic journey at the Seoul Institute of the Arts, majoring in theater. However, following the death of his father in 2000, Jo left the institute to support his family, marking the start of his professional acting career.

Theater Roots and Transition to Screen

Jo's career commenced in musical theater in 2004, where he showcased his versatility in productions like Spring Awakening, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and Grease. Over nearly a decade, he performed in 25 musicals, earning acclaim for his stage presence.

His transition to the screen was marked by a breakout role in the 2012 film Architecture 101, where his comedic timing garnered widespread attention. This success led to prominent roles in television series such as The King 2 Hearts (2012), You're the Best, Lee Soon-shin (2013), and Oh My Ghost (2015), solidifying his status in the industry.

Jo's filmography expanded with notable performances in The Face Reader (2013), My Love, My Bride (2014), and Exit (2019), the latter becoming one of South Korea's highest-grossing films of the year.

Jo married singer Gummy in 2018 after five years of dating. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter, in August 2020.
