Joseph Weisberg
Biography
Joseph “Joe” Weisberg is an American television writer, producer, novelist, and former CIA officer. He graduated from Yale University in 1987 and later worked in the CIA’s Directorate of Operations from 1990 to 1994 before pursuing a career in writing.
Weisberg began writing novels, including 10th Grade and An Ordinary Spy, before moving into television. He worked as a writer on Falling Skies and Damages.
His breakthrough came with The Americans (2013–2018), which he created and executive-produced. The Cold War spy drama follows two Soviet KGB agents living undercover as an American married couple in Washington, D.C. His own experience with the CIA helped inspire elements of the series.
Weisberg later co-created and served as showrunner and executive producer of the psychological thriller The Patient (2022). He also received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series for The Americans.
Through his work in television and literature, Joseph Weisberg has become particularly known for combining his intelligence background with complex stories about espionage, identity, relationships, and human psychology.
