Biography
Joshiy is an Indian film director who works predominantly in Malayalam cinema. Born on 18 July 1952 in Varkala, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, he made his directorial debut with Tiger Salim (1978). His breakthrough came with Moorkhan (1980), establishing him as one of Malayalam cinema's prominent filmmakers.
Joshiy became particularly known for action thrillers and crime dramas. His major films include Aa Raathri (1983), Nirakkoottu (1985), New Delhi (1987), Naduvazhikal (1989), Kauravar (1992), Dhruvam (1993), Lelam (1997), Pathram (1999), Runway (2004), Naran (2005), Lion (2006), Twenty:20 (2008), Run Baby Run (2012) and Porinju Mariam Jose (2019).
His collaboration with Mammootty produced several notable films, including New Delhi, Nair Saab, Mahayanam and Dhruvam. Dhruvam (1993), starring Mammootty, Jayaram and Suresh Gopi, became a major commercial success and is regarded as one of Joshiy's notable action films.
Joshiy has also directed films in other Indian languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. His Hindi remake of New Delhi was released in 1988, while he also directed the Telugu version, Anthima Theerpu.
His later Malayalam films include Christian Brothers (2011), Run Baby Run (2012), Lokpal (2013), Salaam Kashmier (2014), Lailaa O Lailaa (2015), Porinju Mariam Jose (2019), Paappan (2022) and Antony (2023).
